Registration is now open for the SIMA Boot Camp P.M. featuring a presentation from Douglas Van Praet, Executive Vice President at leading ad agency, Deutsh LA, and founder of Unconscious Branding. The event will be held on Tuesday, October 22, 2013, at the Hurley Headquarters in Costa Mesa, Calif., from 5:00-7:00 PM.
Douglas Van Praet is the author of Unconscious Branding, a brand strategy consultancy whose approach to marketing draws from Unconscious Behaviorism and applies neurobiology, evolutionary psychology and behavioral economics to business problems. Prior to this, he led strategy development for top agencies and marketers in New York and Los Angeles. Van Praet will explain his unique approach to branding, which focuses on understanding the unconscious motivations that cause people to act and buy. This ideology is what led clients like Volkswagen to campaign success. In a world that always assumes that the consumer is aware of their buying preferences, he asks questions like, “Do we really know why we purchase our iPads, drink Starbucks or wear Nike?”
This will be the second Boot Camp in the new “P.M.” format. The event will offer members an educational platform in a relaxed environment, encouraging industry networking before and after the presentation. Attendees can also enjoy complimentary appetizers, finger foods and beer while networking.
“SIMA Boot Camps help us fulfill a core tenet of our mission, which is industry education,” says SIMA President and Vans’ VP/GM Americas Doug Palladini. “We have been fortunate enough to attract world-class speakers, leaders in their respective fields, to share their experiences and insight with everyone in the surf industry from first-year rookies to brand Presidents.”
